Criminal Structures

These are how the power structures work in the Tangled Empires Universe.

The Irish mob is mostly historically accurate. The structure I use is pretty much how the Irish mob was structured in America to the turn of the century.

The Bratva only varies slightly with the fact I’ve given family heads more prominence. The actual Bratva isn’t as hereditary and family based as it is in Tangled Empires. I’ve also avoided using the titles Pakhan and Sovetnik. I’ve tended to replace with Boss and Number 2 though the roles do corellate to the more traditional Russian names in the image below.

It’s the Italian Mafia that probably differs most from both historical accuracy and other modern Mafia works. The concept of the ‘Godfather’ belongs in fiction (although there was a leading role rotated among the primary five New York families). However for the purposes of Tangled Empires the Capo dei Capi ‘the boss of bosses’ effectively plays a ‘Godfather’ role. The Capo dei Capi is in overall control of the entire organisation and all the Capos of the other cities are answerable to him, his underboss and his consigliere. The ‘Captains’ – the high ranking men based in New York are of equal ranking to the Capos of the other Mafia cities.
